We are a social enterprise whose goals are delivering affordable energy efficient housing solutions for New Zealand, and promoting regional developments as a way to reduce socioeconomic inequality. We explored architectural design, building science, collective housing development, and energy production and distribution in order to design a holistic approach to solving these challenges. Among the discoveries, we identified that a vertically integrated construction system utilising multiple methods of prefabrication is the absolute necessity before further developments would have been feasible. This allowed us to reprioritise our focus on Habitat Fabricator. We intend to make as many discoveries available as open source as possible so that they can be beneficial to other social enterprises and anyone who shares the same missions.
